Pregnancy

During pregnancy changing hormone levels cause some extra elasticity of the pelvic ligaments. This as well as babys growth, can change the mothers posture. This affects the Low back and Sacroiliac joints (SIJ). The two bones that make up the SIJ are the sacrum and the ilium. A physical therapist will determine what is causing the pain in either the joints (due to alignment of the SIJ) or muscles and connective tissue. They are able to use gentle safe techniques to re-align the pelvis and reduce pain.

Other pain conditions during pregnancy can include Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome both of which are easily treatable with physical therapy.
