Sprains and Strains

Sprains and strains are common injuries that share similar signs and symptoms, but involve completely different parts of your body.

A sprain is a stretching or tearing of ligaments — the tough bands of fibrous tissue that connect one bone to another in your joints. The most common location for a sprain is in your ankle.

A strain is a stretching or tearing of muscle or tendon. A tendon is a fibrous cord of tissue that connects muscles to bones. Strains often occur in the lower back and in the hamstring muscle in the back of your thigh.

Manual Physical Therapy is found to provide a significant reduction in pain and increased ability to move in a very short time frame. Manual Therapy techniques of joint mobilization, deep tissue mobilization and muscular retraining are proven to be significantly effective treatments for this condition. The faster we start rebuilding stability and renewed strength where a sprain or strain has occurred the quicker you get back to a fully functional, active lifestyle. If you’re experiencing discomfort from a sprain or strain contact us so we can get you headed toward the road of recovery.
